Tritium Watches - They Glow In The Dark

by: Neil Rosenfeld
Tritium, an isotope of hydrogen, is both naturally occuring and man-made. It is very useful for watch dials that can be read at night.
Tritium (H3) is a radioactive isotope of the element hydrogen-symbol H. Tritium occurs naturally in the atmosphere from the reaction of cosmic rays and air molecules. It is also produced in nuclear reactors during production of electricity.
Tritium is an atom of hydrogen with one proton and 2 neutrons giving it an atomic weight of 3. Tritium has a half-life of about 12-1/2 years. This means that 1/2 of the original amount will decay in 12-1/2 years. While this half life is relatively brief in the world of radioactive materials, this gives tritium some useful properties.
Tritium when encapsulated in watches, exit signs, aircraft gauges and other applications, will glow for up to 25 years. The radioactive decay of tritium is not dangerous to man in these applications because it emits a very weak beta particle that can be stopped by even a piece of paper. Since the tritium is encapsulated in small packets made of glass or plastic, radiation doesn't reach the skin. The benefits of this decay is a bright display that can easily be read at night. The light emitted is not visible during the day, but at night, the glow is very visible.
This makes tritium very popular for night visibility applications. Pilots, the military, police and others like the visibility without having to press any buttons to read the display. Several watchmakers are now using tritium displays for their displays. They have displays that far exceed the brightness of standard luminescent watch dials that require "charging" by exposure to light. These have become very popular watch styles with the general public as well as military, pilots and law enforcement.
Tritium watches come in many styles and prices. There is a style for just about anyone. Now you can tell the time in the dark and look in style at the same time.

No More Distractions with Noise Reduction Headphones

The world is a very noisy place with loud, intermittent sounds and constant, droning noises – noise reduction headphones can help you get a little peace amongst the distractions of everyday life. Headphones can block out the myriad of sounds that occur in a variety of setting and are helpful to many different people.
Sleeping – If you have trouble sleeping, noise reduction headphones may aid you in getting some rest. Barking dogs, traffic, and awake family members can contribute to sleepless nights, and for those who are sensitive to noise when they're trying to sleep, noise reduction headphones create a sound-free environment so they can rest.
Playing Music – Musicians often use noise reduction headphones to help them block out sounds that may interfere with them hearing their instrument. Once the background noise is blocked, they are free to concentrate purely on the sounds they are making rather than the sounds around them. This creates an environment of total immersion into their music and allows them to perfect their work without being in a studio.
Autistic Students – Noise reduction headphones can also be used in the classroom to help autistic children. Often classroom environments can be distracting to children with autism. Headphones for the children help teachers instruct each student individually so others aren’t confused or distracted by the instructions for the other students.
Studying – Noise reduction headphones are very useful in situations where you need peace and quiet but can't always control the environment. Students who are studying may find noise reduction headphones helpful in blocking out the distracting sounds around them. Headphones create a peaceful world in which they can focus on their work, rather than environmental noises or the sounds of others.
Working – If you work in a cubical or an open-plan office but find yourself regularly distracted by people walking by, phones ringing, others talking, and the general chaos that can be office life, noise reduction headphones can make a difference. They can help you focus on the task at hand rather than everything going on around you which can boost your productivity and the quality of your work.
Noisy Neighbors – Living in an apartment building, condo or townhouse may include noisy neighbors. Depending on the thickness of your walls and ceiling, you may hear your neighbors walking around above, or hear their music or talking. Noise reduction headphones can block these sounds so you can enjoy being at home, even if the neighbors are loud.
These are only a few examples of the sorts of noise disturbances you may come across in daily life. Where once you had no choice but to be distracted, noise reduction headphones put you in control. Never again do you have to experience a sleepless night or a ruined project. Noise reduction headphones can be used to block out the noises around you: voices, car engines, train noises, barking dogs, loud offices, airplane engine noise, city sounds, loud neighbors, etc.
Keyless Door Lock Batteries
by: Angela Oliver
Most cars come equipped with keyless entry systems. The keyless entry system increases the safety of a vehicle. It also reduces the likelihood of theft. There are many different types of keyless entry systems that use different types of battery power. There are many brands of keyless door lock batteries and systems as well.
Keyless door lock batteries can be made for a number of specific manufacturers. Some common brands include EveryReady, Panic Door, Room Safe, and Intellis to name a few. It is important to locate which brand of keyless door lock device you have when ordering replacement batteries.
There are a variety of types of door lock batteries. Alkaline is a very common type used in most batteries. Another type is NiCD or NiMH. Both are metal based batteries that are more powerful and efficient than alkaline batteries. An even more powerful type of battery that is relatively new to door lock batteries is Lithium Ion. Li-Ion batteries are said to last ten times longer than alkaline and nickel based batteries. Most new models of keyless door lock systems are now being equipped with Li-Ion batteries.
Keyless door lock batteries are generally not very expensive. Expect to pay at most $20. In some cases the entire unit may need to be replaced due to electrical problems or failure. While some keyless door lock remotes are relatively inexpensive, others can cost over $100. Price of the remote is something to consider when purchasing a keyless door lock system.

With battery shut off, the car will not start unless unlocked by the keyless door lock remote. Another great feature to purchase with keyless door lock systems is remote start. This can start the engine without putting the keys in the ignition. On a cold day, a car can be warmed up without every going outdoors.
The keyless door lock system provides automobile owners with a variety of advantages. To maintain the system it is important to purchase the right type of door lock batteries, and also purchase quality batteries. Doing so will ensure the keyless door lock system will remain functional for its lifetime.
Infrared And Bluetooth: Connecting Things Easier
by: Robert Thatcher
With different electrical devices produced everyday, the problem of connecting things is becoming more and more complex. The system that comprises the computers and other electronic devices makes use of varieties of connecting wires, cables and the likes. These parts communicate trough light beams, lasers, radio signals and infrared. However, the problem with this devices and technologies is often the connection between each component. Thus, most systems are not used to their full extent due to complexities.
To simplify things, a solution was created to streamline the process of connections- bluetooth.
Bluetooth is wireless and automatic and offers users with varieties of excellent features that has recreated the art of connection. It has revolutionized the standard method of connecting things that virtually anything can be connected on a single system. From computers to mobile phones and from keyboards to headphones by means of wireless, automatic and inexpensive connection.
Other than the bluetooth technology, there are other ways of connecting things. Take for example the infrared or IR. It allows low frequency light waves which the eye can no longer interpret to transmit signals to another component. The technology is easy to create and cost of incorporating the IR device into a system is in barest minimum. Yet it has limited operations that seldom obstructs the process of connection.
Infrared technology is one to one process. Due to this limitation, you may only send signals from one component to another, like the case of the television set and the remote control. The same is true between laptops and desktops. You may only transmit signals between the two but not with another separate system, say a PDA through simultaneous actions.
It also works only on the line of sight principle wherein one has to point the infrared device directly to the host system to achieve a desirable result.
In spite of the fact that these two natures of infrared technology are obstacles to acquiring results, these same qualities have worked in advantage to connection. Because infrared devices need to be lined up directly on opposing locations, too little interference occurs between transmitters and receivers. The one to one principle on the other hand is designed to transmit signals only to the original recipient. Given that there are varieties of infrared recipients in a location, the intended recipient alone will receive the signal coming from a transmitter.
However, technology was not contented with what infrared offers. They resolved these limitations through creating the bluetooth solution.
Bluetooth technology works by transmitting signals via low frequency radio signals. The path of communication is approximately working on 2.45 gigahertz. The same frequency band is utilized in ISM devices.
The design of the technology was such that it has created a new system that does not interfere with the other devices that make use of the same frequency band (e.g. ISM). One way of doing this is the programming of the bluetooth technology to only transmit signals that has 1 milliwatt or less. Beyond this, other systems may be affected. By comparison, cell phones and other mobile devices send signals at a rate of 3 milliwatts and more.
The standard range of the bluetooth is around ten meters. This lessens the possibility that interference between device may occur. With this low transmission, it is still possible for the user to transmit bluetooth signals between obstructing walls.
Bluetooth in many ways have contributed much in connecting individual systems without being bothered by the bulk of the cables and wires.
Headsets And Their Essential Benefits
by: Robert Thatcher
Telephone headsets have played an essential role when it comes to communications. They are used both in the workplace and at home.
Headsets are typically attached to a phone system, either mobile or landline. They are also plugged into personal computers to be used in several applications.
Here are some advantages of headsets over the typical headphones, mobile phones or telephone handsets:
1. Headsets offer a "hands-free" option when communicating.
Typically, this is used for talking over the phone so that both of the user's hands will be free to do other things.
You can see headsets used in the office, where the receptionist accepts incoming calls and uses the computer at the same time.
Almost all headset models available in the market now can be plugged into any compatible telephone system, or individual handy, mobile or landline phone.
With this convenience offered by headsets, they end up being an essential tool especially in the workplace.
2. Headsets have ergonomic benefits.
As compared to the traditional handsets which lets you tilt your head at a certain angle to cradle the earpiece, headphones help maintain good posture.
It lets you sit up straight because it frees up your hands. Headsets also save space, you can just hang it on your desk instead of taking up an entire area in your desk to help free your office of clutter.
There are also wireless types which do not tie you to your desk.
3. Headsets may be used for various PC applications.
Headsets may be used as another means of communications. Search engines now offer "voice chat" where you can speak with the person that you are chatting with.
Call centers and other business establishments use this as their major means of communications and an essential tool in their business.
Once a telephone headset is attached to a telephone system, it can work alongside a personal computer which has a USB port or an audio socket and a sound card. This would result to various applications in business.
For gaming and multimedia pruposes, a good quality headset is also a great investment.
When purchasing a headset that will best suit your needs, try to check on the following:
- Sound quality
Headsets should produce a good sound quality Since it is used for communication purposes, you should not compromise the sound quality of the set that you will buy even for a hefty cost.
- Microphone quality
Headsets are made up of two major parts: the earpiece and the microphone.
There are brands which have a device installed in the microphone which cancels outside noise.
These microphones actually filter the sound coming out of your mouth to be better received on the other end.
Make sure that the microphones would not be susceptible to feedbacks which will produce unnecessary noise on the background. This will further improve speech accuracy on the part of the speaker.
As long as you have a headset which has a good sound and microphone quality and the brand that you will buy is reliable enough, then you can go ahead and use it for the application of your choice.
Customize Your Mobile Phones Through Free Ring Tone Downloads
by: Tony Brings
Customizing your mobile phone is one of the things we enjoy doing. Not only that we are giving our phones that good look, we are also making it as if it is our counterpart. From the hard covers and the backlights up to the different mobile applications installed in our phone, we make it as personal as possible in order to fit it in our standard way of living.
And luckily for us, different wireless specialist especially in wireless mobile application are trying to give different promotions like free downloads of ringing tones in order to lure their potential customers to purchase different mobile phone products and avail of a mobile phone service provider.
Well, let us discuss how we can avail of such freebie for our mobile phones.
Before downloading ringing tones, take into consideration two important factors:
1. Capability of your phone - Although having the same functions of sending SMS (short massaging service) or MMS (multimedia messaging service) and making and receiving voice calls, mobile phones still differs on its capabilities especially in software application.
Mobile designers continue to develop and enhance further certain functions of phones, especially when it comes to mobile photography and video messaging, and ringing tones. In order to find the right ringing tone for your phone, read its instruction manual and know its specification—whether it has melody composer, and other applications needed to avail of free downloads.
2. Format of ringing tones - Ringing tones comes in different formats, depending on the nature of its sound reproduction. Advanced mobile phone models are now configured to receive polyphonic and MP3 tones, which requires high storage of memory. Once you have known your cell phone specification, be aware also of what ringing tone format to install.
Now that you are aware of the factors aforementioned, let us now proceed on how to download free ringing tones. First step is to browse which website offers free downloads of ringing tones.
Once you have found which websites are offering such freebie, determine which is the best downloading procedure is fitted on your phone depending on its capability. There are two downloading procedure available: the key press format and the WAP downloading format:
1. The key press format is the most basic, eventually every mobile phone equipped with melody composer do support this kind of downloading format. The website will posts all the ringing tones in key press format, where you will see notes and the key it corresponds on the keypad of your phone. This will produce a monotone, and it is absolutely free. Just follow the instructions on the homepage and you are in the process of having your free ringing tone played in your phone.
2. The WAP downloading format can be used as a conduit in downloading free ringing tones especially if your phone supports wireless application protocol (WAP). WAP is also called the “wireless web”. Service providers include in their wide array of services this kind of function to facilitate actual download of the tones without actually composing it. If your phone supports this application, it is recommended that you use it for downloading contents.
Once you gained access of your WAP browser, just type the address of the site where you want to download your free ringing tone. From there you follow the instructions in the page, and wait for your tone to be delivered to you through WAP.
However, downloading using this format is not very free of charge— your mobile phone service provider is imposing additional charges if you avail your WAP service. What make it advantageous is that it is relatively cheaper if you will actually download ringing tone directly from your service provider.
It is now up to you if you want to avail of such free download. After all, the directions are just there, waiting for you.
Fax Machines Guide-Some guidelines about Fax Machines
by: Anuj Sharma
A telecommunication tool that sends and receives documents or graphics via telephone lines is known as ‘fax machine’. Fax machine is basically a package of image scanner, a modem and a computer printer. Scanner is used to convert the content of physical documents into digital image whereas modem sends image data via phone line and printer is used to make a duplicate of original document.
Sometimes fax machines are used to scan documents into a computer and to take a print of documents from computer. Fax machines converts a picture into zeros and ones format so that data can be easily transmitted like normal computer data while on the other side it reads the data and translates zeros and ones back into dots and reprints the picture.
Fax machines are affordable and easy to use devices. Fax machines transmit data at speed from 4,800 bps to 28,800 bps. Fax machines with a speed of 9,600 bps transmit one page within 10-20 seconds. Several fax machines use thermal printer that needs special paper to print the best pictures. Thermal paper mostly comes in two sizes such as 8.5 inches wide and 10.1 inches wide.
Some fax machines come with vast variety of dialing features. It enables you to set a program to send a document at future time. Another important feature of fax machine is that you can send multi page document without feeding each and every page manually in the machine.
Latest fax machines are a bit faster than the old ones. You should determine quality, price and other important features at the time of purchasing a fax machine. You can select ‘fax modem’ in case you want to send faxes but not receive them. Choice of fax machines depends on your requirements.

Digital Printing vs. the Traditional Method in Photography
by: John Sollars

Over the past years, technology has been continuously evolving and it has brought about improved graphics, artworks and printing. Newer breakthroughs in technology have also made printing affordable and easy to use.

For photographers too, printing has been made very easy and consultative. More photographers have switched from the old style to the modern enlarged printing with the use of digital inkjet printers.

With the modern use of digital cameras now taking into effect to make perfect digital shots, photographers no longer have to go through the process of scanning of the negatives from the pictures taken This is the one of the main reasons more photographers have switched over to the digital age technology.

Digital image printing is developed in corresponding software such as PhotoShop, CorelDraw and may other types of software. However, among them all, Photoshop is the most commonly used software application to meet the demands of clearer and precise digital prints. In fact, it has now become difficult for photographers to sell the equipment formerly used in the darkroom.

With the growth of printing technology, new issues have also sprung up, such as whether digital printing is really as aesthetic and long lasting. Critics wonder if digital printing can contain the same level of output as that of traditional images. For others, printing in inkjet printers is akin to imitating the original as they are printed with the use of ink, while the traditional method contained natural mixture for photography purposes. Nevertheless, even with the advancement in digital photo printing, a number of people still appreciate the old technique of printing.

In case you’re wondering about when the debate of digital printing over traditional was sparked off, it started with doubts over the long-lasting effect of inkjet prints over emulsion printouts. Critics have questioned if inkjet prints can endure the exposure longer and maintain their quality. However, some have proven that the traditional prints have not lasted as long and have slowly been fading in time as well. This observation strengthens the belief that no image can withstand exposure for a long period of time yet. Given that the developments in digital technology are ever increasing, questions and issues regarding its performance have been lessened for it has played its role well till date.

Inkjet prints have greatly contributed to giving an eventual effect in the uniqueness of images. The technique of inkjet printers involves spraying a number of tiny dots onto the paper, making the image sharper and more defined. This is perhaps a simple example of how the new printing technology has played its part of contributing to creativity and has now defined its own field of artwork.

The acceptance of inkjet prints has been quite unpredictable so far. In some exhibitions and art galleries, inkjet print designs are easily allowed, whereas some follow strict rules against the display of such prints. Alternatively, some designers still prefer the traditional emulsion prints to be part of their artworks. For those who rely on digital printing, the choice is based on practicality and reverting to the traditional technique is not longer financially viable. Digital printing has also made enlarging of prints and images much easier than traditional printing. It has been suggested that in time, when digital printing will continue its rise in the world of technology, many will make the switch over from the traditional method to the digital one.

The use of digital printing requires refinement in art skills, and accuracy and precision should be followed and maintained. To enhance printing abilities, the aid of Photoshop, or similar types of software can prove to be very useful for acquiring spectacular prints.

Cyan And Magenta Explained

Moving on to ink cartridges used in printers, anybody who has purchased these cartridges would know that there is no blue or red ink. Cyan certainly looks blue and magenta definitely looks red — but have you ever wondered why they simply don’t call them blue and red instead of cyan and magenta?

Here’s the explanation — both monitors and printers use different ways to produce colour. While a monitor is a light source, printers are light reflecting. The only common ground between the two is something known as dithering. It is the process of approximating a colour that cannot be displayed with uniformly dispersed dots of other colours.

This technique assigns differing colour values to adjacent pixels, thereby reducing the contrast between dots of different colours or shades and generates a more flowing, natural impression. When viewed from a distance, these colours seem to blend into a single intermediate colour. Dithering is similar to the half toning used in black-and-white publications to achieve shades of grey.

Coming back to the discussion, both monitors and printers use primary colours; however, a monitor uses primary additive colours red, green and blue, while printers use the primary subtractive colours cyan, magenta and yellow. In both cases, the primary colours are dithered to form the entire colour spectrum. Dithering breaks a colour pixel into an array of dots so that each dot is either made up of one of the basic primary colours or intentionally left blank to create white.

Cyan and magenta are in fact old printing terms for blue and red, but since some form of differentiation is needed between the additive and subtractive spectrum, cyan and magenta are here to stay!
